WMS - Boot and Register Thin Clients

Boot the Thin Client. If DNS and DHCP are set up correctly, the thin client will be registered on the WMS server, and the RDP session to the AMI Terminal Server should be up and running.

Table of Contents

See if Device Registered at the Store

Open the browser to the WMS server.

  1. Open the Devices tab

  2. Choose the Configuration Group

  3. View the clients

You should see the client there.

If DNS is not set up, or the DHCP is not configured properly, you may see names like:

The name is a MAC address

If the name looks like a MAC address, then this is the default name used by the device. This means that the DNS PTR record is not set up. This is easy to configure manually.

Start by clicking on the Name of the device.

  1. Click on the More Actions pulldown

  2. Select Change Host Name

Set the new name, and click Send Command.

WARNING: this will immediately reboot the thin client. This is probably what you want.

The name is a Generic Name

If the name looks like a generic name, that means the Static DHCP entry is not correct, so the device picked up a generic name. Check the Static entry in DHCP and correct it.

The Device Does Not Show up at all

If the device boots up but does not show up, you must check the DHCP Settings to make sure the Key is set. Reboot the device after DHCP is updated.
